3D TEXT

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Special thanks to Jay's ( a.k.a. Blastmachine ) Pixel Stretch tutorial and ingenious use of PSP tubes where this tutorial was adopted from.

So, wondering how to make your text 3D in PSP? Here's how...

REQUIREMENTS: PSP6 or 7

1. Open a NEW 500 X 500 image with Transparent background.

2. Create a new text with your choice of font, size, colors, and style relative to the graphics you're working on. In this tutorial, I used Copperlate Gothic Bold font, size 72, gradient stroke / fill colors. Style is simply italized, underlined, curved, etc...

3. Click on LAYER => Convert to Raster Layer.

4. On the tool pallet, click on DEFORMATION Tool and hover your cursor to the top left or right corner of the deformation handle.

5
. Hold down "CTRL" key and drag your cursor towards the middle. (see sample below)

NOTE: This will deform the text creating the illusion of "perspective". Don't worry about the jaggy edges... this is just temporary  ;)

6. Click on PICTURE TUBE Tool in preparation for step 10.

NOTE: You can click on any of the tools to exit DEFORMATION mode. Notice the jagged edges of your text smoothen and becomes blurry as a result of the deformation. Before moving on to the next step, I suggest you sharpen your text. Click on EFFECT => Sharpen => sharpen.  You can also apply bevel effect on your text .

7. When you're satisfied with your text, go to EDIT => Cut. Go to EDIT again => Paste as a New Image.

8. Now, click on FILE => Export => Picture Tube and follow the setting on the right. For the purpose of this tutorial, let's name it "3DText".

9. Hit the "O" key and follow the setting on the right.

10. And for the trick... click anywhere on your 500 X 500 canvas and take note of the coordinates on the status bar of your screen (see below).

11. Hold down "SHIFT" key and move your cursor up. Keep the coordinate value on the left the same and watch the value on the right go down. Click your mouse and see what happens.

12. If you did it right, you'll end up with something like the picture below.

And that's it. Instant 3D Text! Easy isn't it? ;) ... Next thing to do is have fun and be creative.

Here are some touches I did to the sample image above. I added a gray background to see the image more clearly

1. COLOR => Negative Image.

2. LAYER => New Raster Layer => Add another "3D Text" tube

3. Move the top layer over to the "negative" layer.

And here's the final image with background and effects.
