1. Open NEW IMAGE, Background=Transparent, Width=200, Height=200, and Resolution=72. For the purpose of this tutorial, I used a "Cracked Emerald" texture (available in PSP7) as background just to show the image more clearly.
2. Click on PRESET SHAPE Tool. From the OPTION pannel (click "O" key), select Rectangle, make sure "Create as a VECTOR" is checked, and ANTIALIAS unchecked. |
|
|
3. On the COLOR pallet, set FILL color to gradient, STROKE color to solid (black or any color you want for this exercise).
4. Select LINEAR from the GRADIENT pannel. Click EDIT and follow the example setting on the right (7 pegs). 5. Follow the encircled TRANSPARENCY setting (10 pegs) and add these opacity values starting from the left: [100--20--50--100--20--20--100--50--20--100]. |

|
6. Click on PRESET SHAPE Tool and draw a simple rectangle.
7. See. Simple isn't it? Now try experimenting by using different colors and different styles of gradients (sunburst, radial, and rectangular). |

8. So simple, yet very useful in many cases where an object requires consistent lines of transparent and opaque colors.
Below is an example of an object where you can use the Gradient Transparency feature effectively... |
