FLAME

Here's a quick way to draw FLAME (or fire) using PSP 8's new Brush Variance Feature.

REQUIREMENTS: PSP 8 and an "eye" for color.

1. Open NEW IMAGE, Raster Background=#000000, Width=300, Height=300, and Resolution=200px/inch.

2. Apply SUNBURST Effect to the background. Go to Effects => Illumination => Sunburst and follow the settings below:
Light Spot: Brightness=80, Hor=45, Ver=39     Rays: Density=0, Brightness=0     Circle: Brightness=0
Color: #AB4705 ( you can use different color if you want, just make sure it goes well with the rest of the image)
3. On the MATERIALS pallet, set the colors similar to the one on the right. Again, you can pick your own color if you want.
4. On the BRUSH VARIANCE pallet, copy the setting on the right.

5. Click on the PAINT BRUSH Tool and copy the setting below:

Size=32, Hardness=50, Step=25, Density=100, Thickness=100, Rotation=0, Opacity=10, Blend Mode=Lighten

Stroke=Unchecked, Wet Look Paint=Checked

6. Go to Layers => New Raster Layer
7. Using the Paint Brush Tool, make 2 or 3 small semi-circular stroke on the canvas (see arrows). If you did it right, you'll see fan-shaped objects similar to the one on the right.
8. Go to BRUSH VARIANCE pallet again and change the Rotation setting to Normal.

9. Make another brush strokes following the brush direction on the right.

It should start to look like flame now. If not, you might be doing it wrong. Check your Tool and Brush settings.

10. Add few supporting objects and you're done.
